What is DLT?
DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is a blockchain-based registration system introduced by TRAI to eliminate spam and fraudulent SMS traffic.
All businesses must:
• Register as Principal Entity (PE)
• Register Headers (Sender IDs)
• Register Content Templates
• (If sending Promotional/Service Explicit) Register & Upload Consent
No DLT = No SMS delivery in India.
Step 1: Principal Entity (PE) Registration
This is mandatory before anything else.
Cost (Updated)
Jio charges:
₹5,900 (Inclusive of 18% GST)
(Effectively ₹5,000 + GST annually)
This is payable directly to Jio for DLT access.

Step 2: Telemarketer Mapping (Important)
Before sending SMS through any provider, you must map your SMS vendor (Telemarketer ID) inside Jio DLT.
Path:

Without PE-TM mapping, SMS will fail.
Step 3: Header (Sender ID) Registration
Header = Sender ID visible to users.
Login → Header SMS → SMS Registration
Header Types

• First digit must match TRAI industry category
Example:
Education → 3xxxxx
Finance → 1xxxxx
IT/Communication → 6xxxxx

• 6 alphabetic characters allowed
• Used for alerts, reminders, updates
Transactional
• Only for RBI-regulated banks (OTP use cases)
Approval Time: 24–48 hours
Status shows as “Active” once approved.
Step 4: Content Template Registration
Every SMS must exactly match a pre-approved template.
Login → Template → Content Template Registration
Fill:
• Category
• Type of Communication (Promotional / Service Implicit / Transactional)
• Template Type: SMS
• Template Name (meaningful only)
• Select Header
• Enter SMS content
Important Rules:
• Brand name mandatory inside SMS
• Variables must use: {#var#}
• Variable length max 30 characters
• Template text must match exactly during sending
Approval Time: 24–48 hours
After approval, Template ID is generated.
Step 5 (If Required): Consent Registration

• Service Explicit SMS
Not required for:
• OTP
• Service Implicit alerts
Process:
- Register Consent Template
