To send SMS (Promotional/Transactional) in India, DLT registration is mandatory as per TRAI regulations. This guide explains the complete process on the Jio Trueconnect DLT Platform including:
- Entity Registration
- Header Registration
- Content Template Registration
1. Entity Registration (Principal Entity)
This is the first and mandatory step before sending any SMS.
Step 1: Visit Jio DLT Platform
Go to the Jio Trueconnect DLT portal and click on Register.
Step 2: Choose Registration Type
- Select Register as Principal Entity
- Select No for: Are you already registered as Principal Entity?
Step 3: Enter Organization Details
Fill in the following details and click Next:
- Organization Name
- Category: Govt / Non-Govt
- Organization Type
- PAN / TAN Number
- Upload relevant document as per organization type
- GST Details
- Complete Organization Address
Step 4: Personal Details of Authorized Signatory
Enter the following details:
- Full Name
- Email Address
- Mobile Number
- Create Password for DLT Portal
- Upload:
- Authorization Letter for DLT Registration (from Competent Signatory)
- Proof of Authority for the Authorized Signatory
Click Next.
Step 5: Verify & Submit
- Review all entered details
- Click Submit
After Submission
- A Success Message with Request ID will be displayed
- You will receive:
- SMS confirmation
- Email acknowledgement
✅ Once approved, you will receive final confirmation via SMS and Email.
2. Header Registration (Sender ID)
After Entity approval, you must register your SMS Sender ID (Header).
Step 1: Login to Jio DLT
Login using the credentials created during Entity Registration.
Step 2: Go to Header Registration
- Click on Header SMS
- Select SMS Registration
Step 3: Enter Header Details
Fill the following:
- Header Type: Promotional (for marketing SMS)
- Business Category: Based on your industry
- Header / Sender ID:
- Must be 6-digit numeric for Promotional
- First digit depends on industry
- Choose a number that represents your company
Step 4: Submit
- Click Submit
- You will see a Header Registration Success Message
Notes
- If a header is already registered, you must choose a different 6-digit combination
- Header approval may take a few days
- You can check approval status by logging into the Jio DLT portal
3. Content Template Registration (SMS Format Approval)
Every SMS message you send must be pre-approved as a content template.
Step 1: Login to Jio DLT
Use Principal Entity credentials.
Step 2: Go to Template Registration
- Click on Template
- Select Content Template Registration
Step 3: Fill Template Details
- Business Category: Based on your industry
- Type of Communication: Select Promotion for marketing
- Consent ID: Optional (only if created earlier)
- Template Type: Select SMS / VOICE
- Template Name:
- Must be meaningful
- Generic names like “Header 1” are rejected
- Select Header:
- Choose one or multiple approved headers
- Enter Message Content:
- Must contain your Brand / Company Name
- Variables must be written as:

Step 4: Submit
- Click Submit
- Click Confirm to finalize registration
After Submission
- Instant popup acknowledgement
- Confirmation via Email & SMS
- Final approval notification will be sent via SMS & Email
✅ Only approved templates can be used for sending bulk SMS.
Important Compliance Notes
- You cannot send SMS without:
- Approved Entity
- Approved Header
- Approved Template
- Every SMS sent must exactly match the approved template
- Variables must follow this format only:
{#var#} - Brand name is mandatory inside the SMS content
